Mr. Ralf Kraemer, CEO of Daimler Commercial Vehicles Thailand (DCVT) revealed, “I am very pleased to be part of the collaboration with the efforts behind to reduce emissions from transportation for Thailand. This delivery of a FUSO Euro 5 truck to Muang Sa Ad Co., Ltd marks the kicking off program supporting government policy to reduce pollution by mandating the Euro 5 emissions standard for trucks in Thailand.”
According to research, it has found that the Euro 5 emission standard reduces pollution from the truck’s combustion of fuel, which consists of gases and dust such as carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC), sulfur oxide (SOx), nitro oxide (NOx), and particulate matter (PM). Particulate matter (PM) and Nitro oxide (NOx) levels are remarkably reductions on the Euro 3 emissions standard.
“Euro 5 is a logical next step for Thailand’s transportation to reduce emissions within the country and inner urban traffics. Daimler Truck and DCVT are committed to support the program to increase the Euro 5 Truck population on Thailand’s roads as fast as possible. As Thailand is a large commercial vehicle market, the positive impact on the environment will be significant.” added Mr. Kraemer.

Mr. Phunsak Theramounkol, Director of Air Quality and Noise Management Bureau, Pollution Control Department (PCD), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, mentioned Thailand’s current state of air pollution that PM2.5 is now mainly caused by the combustion of fuel in urban cars. Studies from many universities indicate that 57% of the dust problem in Bangkok and other big cities like Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen comes from diesel engines, of which 20 to 30% are secondary particles caused by emissions of pollutants. As a result, the state sector has been attempting to address the issues of engine exhaust emissions by mandating compliance with the Euro 5 industry standard for all new vehicles effective from 1 January 2024. There will also be a common standard for fuel, and it is believed that this measure will positively benefit air quality in Thailand.
“We believe that if all cars follow the same direction, there will be a clearly visible big-picture reduction in overall pollution. Of necessity, this will take some time. Getting started before the law comes into effect will benefit the environment, while also asserting leadership to inspire confidence among other road users who have witnessed these facts. Let us all help bring in new technology to reduce pollution in Thailand,” said Mr. Phunsak.
Mr. Pornlert Pruttianan, Chairman of Muang Sa Ad Co., Ltd., added up, “Muang Sa Ad Company does the business of providing environmental management services to society. Muang Sa Ad has been conducting integrated waste management and disposal operations for over 20 years and using FUSO trucks to transport waste. We are absolutely on board to collaborate by trialing the FUSO Euro 5, a front loader vehicle, to help reduce emissions from transporting the waste, which will be friendlier to the environment. Society will be confident that sustainable progress for our organization is a path of doing business requiring collaboration to develop human resources and good programs based on responsibility to the community.”
The FUSO Euro 5 FJ2528R is a 10-wheeled truck of great strength which can load up to 25 tons and is powered by a diesel engine compliant with the Euro 5 standard. The vehicle features electronic injection on a 6-cylinder 4-stroke engine rated at 280HP, with maximum torque of 1,100Nm at 1,200-1,600 RPM. The vehicle has a 9-speed transmission with 1 reverse gear and full Airbrake, as well as an Exhaust brake. It is high fuel-efficient when making long-haul journeys.
Mr. Kraemer concluded, “We must ensure about the operator, and our customer being suitable business case to invest the new technology-Euro 5. This will be our great challenge in the next years. For the moment, every sector in Thailand must come together and push through policies to achieve concrete success. We must encourage investment, and support operators to reduce the issue of PM 2.5 in the most effective way.”
